The Caldwell Amateur Radio Emergency Services (CARES) Net is called every Sunday night at 8:30 PM on the 147.33 (Hibriten) repeater. This is a formal directed net and is sponsored by the ARES. Its purpose is to train, and keep in readiness, a pool of qualified emergency radio operators in the event of a local and/or regional emergency. Net checkins will be called by alpha groups and, unless you check in & out, you will be called again during the informal portion to offer any comments, etc. The 147.33 repeater has a CTCSS tone of 141.3 mhz.
?? Did you know... ??
Rattlesnake venom was a popular treatment for epilepsy early in the twentieth century. After hearing about an epileptic who was free of seizures for two years after being bitten by a snake, some doctors hastened to treat their epileptic patients with this venom. Some reported they were successful, but most determined the venom to be valueless. Its use was almost completely abandoned by 1930.

Christmas Eatin' Meetin'
The annual Christmas Party (Eatin' Meetin') was held at Captain's Galley Restaurant in December. The party was well attended with an estimated 30+ members, XYL's, and children present. A brief meeting was conducted and the meeting was closed with the issuance of the CERT kits to qualified members. Click on camera for photos!
Christmas Paydirt! Wow!!
Robert Reid, WR4UNC, the Emergency
Management coordinator for Caldwell County, has been diligently working to secure funds for purchase of ham equipment to be installed in a new kiosk in the Training Room of the EOC. In this, he has been entirely
successful...securing enough monies to buy a substantial amount of new equipment. The purchase was approved, the equipment was ordered and has now been received (except for a couple back-ordered items), and is awaiting only the purchase of suitable cabinets and counters in the kiosk to house the equipment. The equipment, to be used solely by the Lenoir ARC and the Caldwell County ARES unit (as well as CERT) will go a long way in enhancing both the club's and the county's ability to meet its interoperability mission to the citizens of Caldwell County! The Lenoir ARC and the Caldwell ARES is deeply appreciative of Robert's efforts and Tommy Courtner's (Director, Emergency Management) willingness to work with us in this endeavor!
