(Member-owned-items  Only) NVIS Antenna Experiment
Home    Previous    Next An NVIS(Near Vertical Incident Skywave) Experiment test, was conducted on Saturday, March 31st,  to test the effectiveness of this antenna method for use during local and/or regional emergencies in mountainous areas.  In effect, this first test consisted of my mobile unit located in my back yard and using HF radio on 75-meters to take a roll-call of participating NVIS Group members over a 200-mile radius.  Results will be added to the second test results (April 2nd) and to the actual Experiment results (April 14th)... then all results will be tabulated and studied for future use.  To learn more about NVIS, and to see if you would be interested in participating, go to http://main.nc.us/maraclub , click on "NVIS Antennas" on left of screen, read WA9OTP's article...then scroll down to article by KV5R for an excellent treatment of the subject.  Should you decide you would like to participate, email n4eux@arrl.net to be added to the roll-call list. The 2007 Firefighter of the Year in Dania Beach, Florida, is Steve Adams, N4JRW -- a firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT). A 31-year fire department veteran was cited for his "unselfish dedication to the department and his fellow firefighters." An ARRL member, Adams says he's participated in a lot of public service and emergency operations. "I am very proud of this honor," he told the League. "I was totally taken by surprise." Adams oversees the ham radio program for the Dania Beach and Hollywood emergency operations centers (EOCs). During hurricane emergencies, Adams and his son Josh, N4OSO, staff both EOCs. Over the years, Adams has spent many hours of his own time to put the best equipment and procedures in place so Amateur Radio can back up normal telecommunications in an emergency or disaster. Ham radio also permits the local EOC to link with the Broward County EOC.
