The Caldwell Amateur Radio Emergency Services (CARES) Net is called every Sunday night at 8:30 PM on the 147.33 (Hibriten) repeater. This is a formal directed net and is sponsored by the ARES. Its purpose is to train, and keep in readiness, a pool of qualified emergency radio operators in the event of a local and/or regional emergency. Net checkins will be called by alpha groups and, unless you check in & out, you will be called again during the informal portion to offer any comments, etc. The 147.33 repeater has a CTCSS tone of 141.3 mhz.
?? Did you know... ??
Nearly 94% of the volume of the Earth's crust is taken up by oxygen. The "solid" earth is a well-packed set of oxygen anions (negatively charged ions) crowded closely together, with the small cations ( positively charge ions) of the other 7 elements tucked here & there in the interstices. Even the Rock of Gibraltar is a heap of oxygen and little more.

New ARES Website!
We have toyed with the idea of an ARES/RACES website for Caldwell County for quite some time. Now...it is a reality! The new website, dubbed caldwell-ncares.org, was kicked off on May 17th in an "Under Construction" mode. But today, May 26th, it was finalized and given
most
of its functionality. The website is being hosted by Michelle Suddreth, KD4YTU, as is the Lenoir ARC website. A new Calendar Grid (for ARES/RACES events) will be provided by Greg Branch, KI4GZD, and will be independent of the Lenoir ARC Calendar Grid...so you will need to check both grids for upcoming events!
