GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life. Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range. In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

ARRL Affiliation
March 31st has come and gone and a small number of members failed to submit the required dues to remain an active member of the Club. Our Constitution & ByLaws requires dropping a member from the rolls if dues are greater than 90 days in arrears! If this was an oversight on your part, please contact our Treasurer ASAP. Thanks!
During the June meeting we had one returning member to rejoin the club...welcome back Bobby Roark, W4BLR! We had one vistor: Little Brianna, Age 9, accompanied her grandparents (Mike & Joy Aldridge) to the meeting. Will she become LARC's newest...and youngest...member? Time will tell!!
Please note!
Speaking of Addresses...
The LARC now has a brand-new web domain identity - thanks to Gary, KD4YTU! He has secured for us the domain address of Lenoir-ARC.org (and .net) . Gary will set up a number of email addresses using this domain and later will host our very own website on his server free of charge! Add

The LARC Newsletter has been published each month (except during the club's "hibernation" period) since October 1986 (20 years minus 4) !
Repeater Committee
:
The Repeater status was discussed & several suggestions were offered ranging from trying a different frequency pair to switching to a 440 repeater for our operations.
Disaster Trailer Committee
: A meeeting at the Hudson FD was postponed due to that unit's building being renovated. A LARC meeting will convene there when completed. Suggested: the disaster trailer be made into a generator & antenna carrier and other supportive equipment.
EOC Kiosk Committee
:
Sufficient wire (280' of #14 solid copper) was purchased and a center dipole connector donated for construction & erection of a Delta Loop all-band antenna for an HF station at the EOC. A work party soon!
Probably enough has been said about Field Day 2007 elsewhere in this issue and on the CARES website that I won't say much else about it for fear of becoming redundant. Rather, let's recap what we have participated in or accomplished since Jan 1st.: We have completed the first half of 2007 and I believe we have accomplished quite a lot! In March, we had the Safety Fair at the fairgrounds; in the first quarter, we had Advanced SKYWARN training; in June we had the EmergencyFest 2007 at Blowing Rock; and, of course, we had Field Day 2007 at Redwood Park. All of these things are not pulled off without planning, teamwork, and a certain amount of hard work. To this end, I salute the LARC, CARES, and CERT team members that make all this possible!! We are a progressive club! Coming up: CPR training (CERT) and the Bike Ride (LARC, CARES). Will you participate
