The Caldwell Amateur Radio Emergency Services (CARES) Net is called every Sunday night at 8:30 PM on the 147.33 (Hibriten) repeater. This is a formal directed net and is sponsored by the ARES. Its purpose is to train, and keep in readiness, a pool of qualified emergency radio operators in the event of a local and/or regional emergency.  Net checkins will be called by alpha groups and, unless you check in & out, you will be called again during the informal portion to offer any comments, etc.  The 147.33 repeater has a CTCSS tone of 141.3 mhz.     ??   Did you know...  ?? Rarely seen is the longest mountain range in the world.  Most of it lies buried beneath the sea.  It is the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which runs 10,000 miles from Iceland toward Antarctica.  The tallest mountain is more than five miles high.  The tallest point in the range above water is the more than mile-high island of Pico in the Azores.

ARRL Visitor, Tim Slay A Uni-Four Emergency Management test/event is scheduled for August 10, 2006, beginning at 0630, involving  four connecting counties (Alexander, Burke,  Caldwell, & Catawba).  The scenario suggests it is a weather-related event.
We were pleased to have with us, during the July meeting, Tim Slay, N4IB, of the ARRL.  Tim presented a nice slideshow of the inner workings of ARRL, the benefits of League membership, and what we, as amateurs, can do to support the League. Tim is the North Carolina SM (Roanoke Division/ARRL). Next
