GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life.  Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range.  In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

I attended the Asheville (WCARS) hamfest and it turns out that their practice of closing up early  coincides with what appears to be the norm for hamfests these days. The grand prize was drawn at 1 PM and by 1:30 PM, I doubt if there was over a couple dealers still "dealing".  Do the hamfest planners not realize that the hamfest falls apart after the grand prize drawing??  It appears to me that the final grand prize drawing time should revert back to drawing times of yesteryear...say 3 PM.  That way, the dealers would have more time to sell and hamfest late-arrivals would still get a piece of the action.  Are you listening hamfest planners???
Durn...it's HOT outside!!!
