GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life. Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range. In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

IT'S TIME FOR CLUB OFFICER NOMINATIONS AT THE OCTOBER MEETING!

The Repeater Chairman stated at the September meeting that we are still awaiting word from SERA & interrested parties on the coordination efforts of our repeater.
Disaster Trailer Committee
: Nothing new to report at present. Project is on temporary hold until after completion of other major projects and committments.
EOC Kiosk Committee:
Robert Reid,
WR4UNC,states that the cabinetry is ready for transport & setup at the EOC. He hopes to have the kiosk setup done by mid-Oct.
Let's see...what can I gripe about this month?? Oh yeah, the Bike Ride! Two items come to mind. The first is the T-Shirt fiasco. As has happened a couple of times in the past, I, along with about 60% of the other LARC members (XYL included) who supported the Ride, failed to get one. This year, it was discovered that the Ride Coordinator
forgot
the list when she came to the pasta dinner the night before where she planned to give them out. The next day, after securing my Aid Station and going to the Meadows, I found they were all gone! Inexcusable!! The next item is a recurring one that plagues the Ride - sag teams who ride alongside their Bike entrant in their cars, creating a very dangerous situation. Can't the officials disqualify the Biker in the
following year
if this situation occurs & is reported?? I should think so!
