GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life.  Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range.  In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

Pg 2    NOTE:  OCTOBER 9TH  CLUB MEETING -  GAMEWELL FIRE DEPARTMENT -  7 PM  ! The LARC Newsletter has been published each month (except during the club's "hibernation" period) since October 1986 (21 years minus 4) !
Repeater Committee : At the September meeting, the repeater trustee, James Bradshaw, N4NIN, informed members present that a recent electrical storm had knocked the repeater off the air and he feared extensive damage.  But after inspection by Mark Bradshaw, it was found that damage, while grievous, was not as bad as feared.  The repeater has since been returned to full service status.

EOC Kiosk Committee :  The ARES kiosk, at this writing, still remains in limbo due to inability to access same due to controlled drugs being stored in that portion of the EOC.

I don't believe I have seen a period, recently, when time seems to have taken on such importance!  Sometimes, it just seems as if everything is coming at you at once.  The last 5 days of September and the first 5 days of October have been just as described.  The events that have taken place in the last ten days or so has, unfortunately, delayed my getting this Newsletter out on time.  For that, I apologize.   During the October meeting, we will again go through the process for nominating a new slate of officers for the elections during November.  It is important that you attend BOTH meetings so that you will have a say in who is going to lead us during the new year, 2009!
