The October meeting was Club Officer Nominations Night to nominate a slate of officers to be voted on at the November meeting. While 64% of our membership was present at the meeting, several declined to be nominated.  Since it is not a good idea to nominate a member that is not present at the meeting, the nominations were taken from the floor of those actually present at the meeting and who did not decline a nomination.  Hence, it appears that the nomnations for the President and the Newsletter Editor positions are going to be, perhaps, a "shew-in".  "Railroaded" may be the best term for the offices of Vice- President and Secretary-Treasurer. GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life.  Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range.  In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!
New Car-Jacking                         Scheme! Some confusion exists about this newsletter as evidenced by comments offered at the October meeting.  In particular, some didn't realize that the "navigation" aid to go to the next page of the newsletter (when viewing online) was located at the very top left-hand  corner of each page ( Back...Next ). Therefore, directional arrows to go from one page to the other have been added at the bottom right-hand corner of each page for your convenience!
Our Mailing address is:  Lenoir Amateur Radio Club,  P.O. Box 3276, Lenoir, NC, 28645. ARRL Affiliation Nominations were taken from the floor during the regular October meeting for club officers to be voted upon during the November meeting. Those nominated:
Tom, KA4HKK - President

During the October meeting, we had one "returning" member to rejoin our ranks.  We welcome Wayne Greene, KU4KH , of Lenoir, back into the fold! Please note! Speaking of Addresses... The LARC now has a brand-new web domain identity - thanks to Gary, KD4YTU!  He has secured for us the domain address of Lenoir-ARC.org (and .net) .  Gary will set up a number of email addresses using this domain and later will host our very own website on his server free of charge!  Add ti onally, this newsletter will be available on the website for viewing and/or printing simply by clicking on one of the several "tabs".  Work will begin shortly on the design and implementation of the new website!! Thanks to all for your support in reorganizing LARC earlier this year. Nearing 2005, nominations have been made for a new year of growth!  Let's do some things...let your desires for projects be known to the membership!  Even if  the club elects not to sponsor a project, individuals might participate. I'm excited about our involvement with public service, contests, nets, and other aspects of ham radio.  Let's do it together  and have some fun!! The editor reserves the right to edit and/or paraphrase articles or "news" submitted for inclusion into the LARC newsletter due to time and/or space constraints. Submit articles, etc. to Jim, N4EUX, at bozo38@charter.net    tnx! GPS While shopping in a local food store, I spotted an eTrex GPS unit near the register with a discounted price of $79.99 (mfg. sugg. retail is $106.24).      Our Newsletter

Election of Officers - November Meeting (11/11/04)!!
During the October meeting, James (N4NIN) was voted to be granted  carte blanche in procuring a new antenna for the club's repeater as a replacement for the original storm-damaged Isopole that had been in use for a number of years. Models considered at the meeting were: an exact Isopole replacement; a Cushcraft Ringo Ranger; or a used Station Master or similar.   Expected cost is in the $100-$150. range with shipping costs, perhaps, as an extra expense.
Although  this Newsletter does not endorse specific products, this unit might be a bargain at this price! (More info??  Call me.   -Ed) Global Positioning System Jim N4EUX Back Next
