Looking over the past year, the club has maintained its "progressive nature" and has moved forward at a rapid pace! Let's see: During 2005 we have rebuilt the club's repeater building and installed a new antenna atop the tower; we, as a club, participated in and was acredited as members of the first county sponsored CERT Team; and we have become deeply committed to serving as a viable support entity to the Caldwell County Department of Emergency Management. What's in store for us in 2006?? Let's go!!
GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life. Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range. In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

Not much news about the repeater to report this month. James, N4NIN, did, however, state that there was a faulty connection found at the lower end of the hardline where it attaches to the short flexible coax stub that attaches to the cavity filters. This condition causes erratic operation of the repeater and will be repaired as soon as a new N-type connector can be found and installed. This should restore its operation to pre-storm dependable operation.
The Newsletter undergoes constant changes...with columns coming/going, in an attempt to bring you a newsy, easy-to-read format and platform to keep you, the reader, aware of the club's activities. Experimental typefonts, colors, and presentations are made on a regular basis to enhance that goal.
