GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life.  Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range.  In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

Please note! Speaking of Addresses... Pg 2    NOTE:  NOVEMBER 13TH  CLUB MEETING -  GAMEWELL FIRE DEPARTMENT -  7 PM  ! The LARC Newsletter has been published each month (except during the club's "hibernation" period) since October 1986 (21 years minus 4) !
Repeater Committee : At the September meeting, the repeater trustee, James Bradshaw, N4NIN, informed members present that an assessment had been made in reference to the damage sustained during the storm that took the repeater off the air recently.  While the repeater has been repaired,  it took $186.57 for those repairs ($86.57 parts; $100.00 labor).  This amount was voted on and was paid from the general treasury.

EOC Kiosk Committee :  The ARES kiosk, at this writing, still remains in limbo. However, this is being studied by Tommy Courtner, Director/Emergency Management, who states a solution is possible.
As Jerry commented in the President's Corner, October has, indeed, been a sad and surprising month for us as members of the Lenoir ARC.  If we ever had a project that is going to require a tremendous group effort, it is now!  Please don't sit idle as a few struggle to cope with our present project. Members know, in light of recent developements, what I mean.  There are, seemingly, a gazillion details that need addressing and, in the near future, lots of manpower that will be needed. Members, please do your part!
On a different front, Jerry has made inroads into our 501 3 (c) project.  The club officers will be called upon for assistance in helping to prepare the approximate 30-page document to justify our request for tax-free status.    -Ed
