Who/What Are We? The Lenoir Amateur Radio Club was established in April of 1986. From its very beginings, it was, and is, devoted to public service and the promotion of amateur radio. Begun as a Saturday morning "breakfast" social gathering of ham operators at the Tastee Freeze Restaurant in January 1986, with upwards of 15 participants weekly, it wasn't long until it was realized that a "core" of a possible ham club for Lenoir was evidenced. In March of that year, a vote was taken to assemble a select committee to draft a Constitution and a set of By-Laws, later ratified, and in April 1986, the social group constituted itself as the Lenoir Amateur Radio Club (LARC). The Lenoir ARC, a fully ARRL-affiliated club, totally embodies the concepts of ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) with many members belonging to that ARRL sponsored function. Similiarly, the LARC is involved with the Caldwell County Department of Emergency Management, the local chapter of the American Red Cross, SKYWARN (with connections to NOAA Weather) and with CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). These six affiliations allows the club to function in local and regional emergencies, whether they are of a civil nature or weather-related.

A club repeater was installed and coordinated in 1989 and operated on the frequency of 147.195/147.795 until December 2005, when the frequency was re-coordinated to another entity. A new frequency pair coordination application is in-process. The official newly-assigned callsign of the club is KF4WOD, callsign trustee - Tom Land, KA4HKK.
